Strasbourg: Where History and Modernity Meet

It all began with a Roman military camp back in 12 BC. Since then, the city has been swept up in a whirlwind of historical events, evolving from a simple outpost into the magnificent city of Strasbourg. I won’t dive too deep into the historical archives here, but I will say one thing: Strasbourg is a unique blend of German and French cultures—you can feel it in the architecture, taste it in the food, and see it in the local lifestyle.
Today, it is the “Parliamentary Capital of Europe,” home to the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, and the European Parliament. Its historic center, Grande Île, is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.
If you arrive in Strasbourg by train, your tour begins the moment you step onto the platform. The most striking thing about the station is its appearance. In 2007, to mark the launch of the TGV high-speed trains, the original 1883 building was encased in a giant glass dome. It now looks like a “Sleeping Beauty” preserved in a glass case. Though “sleeping” might be the wrong word—life inside that glass bubble is constantly buzzing.

The crown jewel of Strasbourg is its Cathedral. This Gothic masterpiece stands 142 meters tall. From 1647 to 1874, it was the tallest building in the world, and today it remains the second-tallest cathedral in France

Strasbourg is packed with incredible spots to visit: museums, exhibitions, and ancient churches. But even just wandering the streets, you’ll constantly stumble upon unique houses and monuments. Every alleyway and every corner of Strasbourg is just begging for a photo. So, before you head out, make sure you have enough storage space on your phone or camera!

And, of course, Strasbourg is a feast for your taste buds. The aromas of choucroute, sausages, pretzels, and other culinary delights will tempt you at every turn.

I promise you, Strasbourg will not disappoint. Pack your bags and come see it for yourself!
